Skyward Airlines has clarified recent social media reports suggesting that one of its flights carrying passengers failed to land at Eldoret International Airport.
In a press statement dated August 24, 2025, the airline confirmed that the aircraft, 5Y-SMK, was engaged in a scheduled crew training exercise and not a commercial flight.
“The mentioned aircraft was not operating a commercial flight but was instead engaged in a routine crew training exercise. There were no passengers on board during this training activity,” Skyward Airlines said.
The clarification follows widespread claims online alleging the flight had failed multiple landing attempts before diverting back to Nairobi, causing confusion and speculation about possible technical issues.
“All our operations remain normal, and safety is never compromised,” the statement read in part.
“Training exercises like this are standard procedures to ensure our crews remain competent and prepared.”
According to Skyward Airline, the aircraft returned safely to Wilson Airport without incident.
“We take the safety of our operations very seriously. Every training flight is conducted under strict regulatory and safety protocols,” the airline explained.
Skyward Airlines noted that routine crew training is common practice in the industry explaining that these exercises allow pilots to practice navigation, landings and emergency responses without affecting passengers.
Skyward Airlines urged the public and media to verify reports before sharing unconfirmed information.
“No passengers were affected and the exercise was part of our ongoing commitment to operational excellence,” the statement read in part.
The airline reiterated its commitment to the highest standards of safety, professionalism and regulatory compliance, highlighting the importance of continued crew training in maintaining operational readiness.
