The Social Health Authority (SHA) has warned all employers and contributors under the Social Health Insurance Act No. 16 of 2023 to remit their monthly Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) contributions on time, cautioning that failure to comply will attract penalties and suspension of benefits.
In a notice released on Friday, SHA stated that monthly SHIF contributions are due by the 9th of every month, as stipulated under Regulation 22(1) of the SHI (General) Regulations, 2024.
Employers who fail to meet the deadline will face a 2 per cent monthly penalty on outstanding contributions, which accrues until full payment is made.
The authority further warned that access to healthcare services for employees will be suspended until all arrears, including penalties, are fully cleared.
“The timely remittance of SHIF contributions is crucial not only to avoid costly penalties but also to ensure that employees have uninterrupted access to healthcare services,” SHA said in the statement.
“Employers who comply on time help safeguard the health and well-being of their workforce.”
SHA emphasized that compliance with SHIF regulations is a legal requirement under national law and urged employers to submit all contributions promptly to avoid enforcement action.
“Prompt payment of contributions benefits both employers and employees, maintaining continuous access to healthcare while supporting the stability of the country’s social health insurance framework,” the authority added.
Employers seeking assistance or clarification on SHIF contributions can reach SHA through their customer care email at customercare@sha.go.ke, via phone at 147, or by visiting the SHA Employer Portal.
